There are moments when it’s worth pausing, listening, and being inspired. The 24th APEVC Congress (Association of Professionals of Green Spaces of Catalonia) was one of those moments. A gathering of professionals in landscaping, gardening, and urban green space management that, beyond sharing technical knowledge, served as a forum to reflect on the future of green spaces. The congress demonstrated how landscape design can go beyond aesthetics and become a tool for regenerating the environment and adapting to climate change. During the sessions, experiences and knowledge were shared that inspire us to improve every project we undertake in natural environments.
INSPIRATION AND TRENDS IN SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPING

When we talk about landscaping, we’re not just referring to beautiful parks or well-maintained gardens. The goal is to design spaces that work in harmony with nature, protect the environment, and improve people’s lives.
The 24th APEVC Congress was the perfect opportunity to discover new ideas, projects, and strategies that help achieve this.
The congress brought together landscape architects, architects, biologists, and specialized technicians who, from different perspectives, shared projects, ideas, and experiences on how to build landscapes that are not only beautiful but also functional, sustainable, and beneficial for people and the environment.
All the companies and organizations that attended shared a common objective: to create more sustainable, functional, and resilient green spaces.
HOW TO LEVERAGE TOPOGRAPHY, WATER, AND VEGETATION IN GREEN SPACE DESIGN
One inspiring idea was to design landscapes that work in conjunction with nature. Discussions focused on how topography, water, and vegetation can be allies in creating spaces that retain rainwater, regenerate soil, and improve biodiversity.
Instead of forcing the terrain, it’s about listening to the landscape and taking advantage of its natural forms to make it more resilient and self-sufficient.
An inspiring example is the Parc del Nord in Sabadell, a project that collects and retains rainwater, integrates native vegetation, and takes advantage of the terrain’s natural features to regenerate the space, demonstrating how design can work in harmony with nature.
This approach aligns directly with our understanding of the work at Espais Verds del Vallès. For years, we have been committed to projects that respect the environment and seek sustainable solutions, integrating technical criteria with ecological sensitivity.
We believe that every green space—whether an urban park, a private garden, or a landscape restoration area—can become a small ecosystem that helps improve the environmental quality of its surroundings.
THE VALUE OF EMBLEMATIC SPECIES AND HOW TO PROTECT THEM

Another interesting presentation focused on the challenges faced by some emblematic species, such as the date palm. It discussed how environmental conditions, changes in the soil, or even certain biomechanical factors can weaken its structure.
This type of research is fundamental to understanding how to maintain the trees that are part of our everyday landscape in good condition.
At Espais Verds del Vallès, we work every day with this same vision: caring for trees and plants not only aesthetically, but also with technical knowledge and respect for their biology.
Arboriculture, sustainable water management, and maintenance planning are key to ensuring that green spaces remain healthy and safe in the long term.
MEDITERRANEAN DESIGN APPLIED TO URBAN PROJECTS
The congress also took us to Almería, with the presentation of the Mediterranean Gardens Park of La Hoya, a project that highlights native vegetation and the identity of the Mediterranean landscape.
These types of proposals show that sustainability also involves knowing and making the most of what we have nearby, adapting the design to the climate, terrain, and available resources.
At Espais Verds del Vallès, we fully share this philosophy. We are committed to using species adapted to our environment, solutions that reduce water consumption, and designs that create comfort, shade, and biodiversity.
Our goal is for each project to be beautiful, yes, but also durable, functional, and harmonious with its surroundings.
INNOVATION IN LANDSCAPE DESIGN RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

One of the most important conclusions of the congress is that innovation in landscape design involves respecting and enhancing the natural environment. The combination of science, creativity, and environmental awareness allows us to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also improve quality of life and protect the environment.
At Espais Verds del Vallès, we apply this philosophy to every project. From design to maintenance, we strive to balance aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability, ensuring that our green spaces are long-lasting, respectful of the ecosystem, and beneficial for the people who enjoy them.
The 24th APEVC Congress left a very clear impression: the future of landscape design lies in sustainable innovation. New generations of professionals are integrating science, technology, and environmental awareness to design landscapes that respond to the challenges of climate change.
The congress made it clear that landscapes are designed with respect, observation, and care.
At Espais Verds del Vallès, this vision is part of our DNA. We are passionate about creating spaces that improve people’s lives, but also contribute to ecological balance.
For over 30 years, we have worked with public administrations, companies, and individuals to transform urban and natural spaces into vibrant, useful, and sustainable places.
