Maritime services

TMA has a division specialized in port waste management in the Port of Barcelona. Our services range from waste collection to waste treatment and recovery, carried out with our own transport and facilities.

We offer the highest quality service to our customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We assist shipowners, cruise lines, shipping agents, merchants and ferries, as well as freight forwarders and port terminals in the management of their waste and the destruction of goods.

In line with our Zero Waste philosophy and the principles of the Circular Economy, we recover all potentially recoverable waste from MARPOL V (plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, etc.) and MARPOL I (fuel oil).

State-of-the-art facilities

We have facilities structured in different areas, which have treatment lines for each type of waste. They occupy an area of 18,000 m² and have a capacity to treat up to 165,000 mt/year of MARPOL waste of all types: hazardous, non-hazardous, solid and/or liquid.

We also have our own Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP), where we manage and treat industrial wastewater.

In-house laboratory and different treatment lines

The process starts in our laboratory where we proceed to the characterization of MARPOL waste in order to define the corresponding treatment line. Once determined, MARPOL waste is managed and recovered at our plant through the following processes:

  • Hydrocarbon Line: hydrocarbon residues, bilge water and similar (MARPOL I and II) for fuel recovery: Fuel oil IFO 380.

  • Industrial Water Line: aqueous liquid waste (MARPOL I and II by-products).

  • Stabilization and Inertization Line: solid / pasty waste (MARPOL I and II by-products).

  • Non-Hazardous Waste Recovery and Transfer Center (MARPOL V): general waste and recoverable materials.

  • Hazardous Waste Recovery and Transfer Center: hazardous liquid and solid waste (MARPOL V Category F).

Own maritime and land fleet

We have two vessels to collect waste by sea and land vehicles to transfer the waste to our plant in the Port of Barcelona.

  • By sea. Two of our own vessels for MARPOL collection, equipped with the latest technology:

      • JAK UNO barge: intended for the collection of hydrocarbon residues, bilge water and similar MARPOL I. It has a storage capacity of 230 m³ of oily liquids and a length of 27 meters, where it can carry up to 7 containers for the reception of solid waste.

      • JAK DOS barge: designed for the collection of general waste and recoverable materials (MARPOL V), with polyvalence for other MARPOL collection services. It has a storage capacity of 32.5 m³ of oily liquids in tanks below deck. It has a length of 18 meters, where it can carry up to 3 containers on deck for the reception of solid waste.

  • By land: Thanks to our land fleet of tanker trucks (ADR certified) and container trucks equipped with hook and/or chain systems, as well as compaction equipment, transports waste from customers’ vessels to our treatment plant at the port.

Safety and certification

Once the services have been performed, TMA provides our clients with the corresponding certificates.

We have the ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Certification.

We also have the quality mark of the Port of Barcelona Efficiency Network.
