Like every May 17th, today marks World Recycling Day, an important day for environmental protection, which raises awareness about the use of resources and encourages proper waste management and recycling.
Every year, the inhabitants of planet Earth produce 2.1 billion tons of solid waste, of which 350 million tons are plastic waste.
16% of this waste is recycled (in the case of plastics, only 10%), preventing 700 million tons of CO2 from ending up in the atmosphere.
But 46% of this waste (equivalent to filling 368,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools) is not treated properly and ends up abandoned in nature, incinerated, or, at best, dumped in landfills.
WASTE TREATMENT TO CONVERT IT INTO NEW RESOURCES
Based on the Circular Economy, and thanks to our own facilities and fleet of trucks, at TMA we ensure complete and proper waste management, contributing to recycling and resource utilization.
The stages of the recycling process we carry out at TMA are:
- Collection of waste at its source.
- Transportation to the transfer plants.
- Selection and classification, to separate the different materials and classify them according to their characteristics.
- Conditioning and processing of waste to convert it into recycled raw material that will be used to create new products, closing the recycling cycle.
But to care for the environment globally, we must not only consider Recycling—the third step of the 3Rs—but also the two previous Rs: Reduce and Reuse. In this way, the use of new resources and the negative impact on the environment are reduced, increasing the sustainability of the planet.

RECYCLABLE MATERIALS
Recyclable waste refers to all materials that can be recycled, such as plastic, paper and cardboard, glass, metals, wood, and WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment), among others.
At TMA, we have specialized divisions for the treatment and recycling of different types of waste:
- Industrial: hazardous and non-hazardous waste
- Biomedical waste
- Medicines and cosmetics
- MARPOL (Marine Pollution)
- Recyclable waste (plastic, paper, cardboard, metal, etc.)
We also have sorting facilities and balers for paper, cardboard, and other recyclable materials, shredding machinery for technical plastics, wood shredders and chippers, pallet recovery facilities, composting plants, etc.
REINTRODUCTION OF RECYCLED RAW MATERIALS
Thanks to our extensive specialization in waste recovery, we guarantee the production of high-quality recycled raw materials, which are used in the production of new products, reincorporating them into the production cycle and contributing to the Circular Economy.
In this video about our Recyclable Materials division, we show how we comprehensively manage this waste.
ORIGIN OF THE RECYCLING SYMBOL
In 1970, graphic designer Gary Anderson created a logo based on the triangular Möbius strip, where each of its three arrows represents one of the steps in the recycling process: collecting materials for recycling, the recycling process itself, and the sale and reuse of these recycled products, so that the system continues again and again.
We take care of our clients and we take care of the environment.
We are much more than comprehensive waste management.
