In this article, we want to share the details of this project and explain how our participation will contribute to the preservation of this natural area.
THE IMPORTANCE OF WASTE MANAGEMENT IN NATURAL ENVIRONMENTS

Natural areas, such as Garraf Park, are a valuable haven for biodiversity and a meeting place with nature that deserves to be carefully protected.
To preserve its beauty and ensure the safety of all visitors, efficient and responsible waste management is essential.
In this sense, the awarding of the waste management service at Garraf Park to TMA reinforces a more efficient, safe, and nature-friendly environmental management model.
Waste management at Garraf Park
Garraf Park, located between the regions of Garraf, Alt Penedès, and Baix Llobregat, is an area of great scenic and ecological value.
The high influx of visitors, especially in parking areas and transit areas, makes an effective waste collection and management system essential.
Through this tender, TMA will implement a clear strategy: regularly collect waste and transport it efficiently and safely, ensuring that the different fractions do not mix.
In our authorized treatment plants, we encourage source separation and material recovery, promoting a responsible and environmentally friendly waste management model.
Environmental and social benefits
The implementation of TMA waste management at Garraf Park represents a set of tangible benefits for both the environment and the community:

-
- Ecosystem protection: prevents contamination of soil, water, and local wildlife.
- Promotion of recycling and the Circular Economy, thanks to selective collection and proper separation of waste.
- Improved visitor experience, offering a cleaner and more attractive environment that reinforces the park’s tourist value.
- Guaranteed safety and health, by regularly removing waste and maintaining facilities in optimal condition.
- Reduction of the carbon footprint, through route optimization and the use of more efficient vehicles.
Because without proper planning and comprehensive waste management:
-
- The park’s image deteriorates and its tourist appeal is reduced.
- Native flora and fauna are put at risk by the presence of uncontrolled waste.
- Health problems arise from pests or contamination.
At TMA, we enthusiastically embrace the award of this service and will contribute to keeping this unique environment alive, while reaffirming our commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment.
We will make a decisive contribution to ensuring that Garraf Park remains a benchmark in environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.

The waste collection and transportation process will:
-
- Be sustainable, efficient, and timely.
- Respond to the park’s real needs.
- Align with the objectives of conservation, sustainability, and the Circular Economy.
During the term of the contract, we will achieve:
-
- Continuity and stability in the provision of the service.
- An adequate timeframe to implement technical and organizational improvements.
- Flexibility to adapt to new park needs as visitor numbers evolve or environmental conditions change.
WASTE COLLECTION ROUTES IN GARRAF PARK
Key action areas

Collection efforts will focus on the busiest and most frequented areas, ensuring full coverage of the most critical areas:
-
- Parking areas along the C-31 highway, known as the Garraf Costes Highway.
- Parking areas for park facilities and the park’s main road.
In these areas, waste will be removed from containers and any waste found in the surrounding area, ensuring a comprehensive cleanup of the surroundings.
Planned collection routes
The service includes several routes designed to optimize collection and ensure coverage of all strategic areas of the park:
Route 1: Costes Highway (C-31)
11 service areas (6 on the sea side and 5 on the mountain side).
13 waste containers.
Distance: 11.4 km.
Route 2: Pista Rat Penat – Plana Novella
5 main parking areas: Pic del Martell 1 and 2, La Pleta, Pla de Querol, and Coll de Vallgrassa.
8 waste containers.
Distance: 7.8 km.
Route 3: Selective Collection
Parking areas of La Pleta, Pla de Querol, Collada de Vallgrassa, and Can Grau.
16 selective collection containers (glass, paper, packaging, and organic waste).
Distance: 14.6 km.
In total, TMA will manage 17 collection points, with a total of 21 waste containers and 16 selective waste collection containers.
This ensures that each type of waste (glass, paper, packaging, and organic matter) is transported to TMA’s treatment and recycling plants, promoting waste recovery and the Circular Economy.
Container cleaning and maintenance
At TMA, we know that quality service doesn’t end with collection. For this reason, we will also carry out a comprehensive cleaning of the containers.
This will:
-
- Prevent unpleasant odors.
- Prevent the proliferation of insects or pests.
- Improve the experience of park visitors.
Waste collection in Garraf is not just a matter of cleanliness: it is a commitment to the life of the park, the health of its flora and fauna, and the experience of its visitors.
VEHICLE FLEET: EFFICIENCY AND SUSTAINABILITY IN WASTE TRANSPORTATION
Given the unique characteristics of the terrain, with narrow coastal roads and paved and unpaved forest tracks just 3 to 3.5 meters wide, it is essential to have an adapted, versatile, and sustainable fleet.

At TMA, we have an adequate waste transportation system to meet these needs:
-
- High-capacity waste collection trucks, designed to navigate safely on mountain roads and in hard-to-reach areas.
- Trailer-mounted vehicles, specifically designed for selective collection, allow access to less accessible points without compromising service efficiency.
- Auxiliary cleaning vehicles, equipped with washing and disinfection systems to ensure proper maintenance of the containers and their surroundings.
In addition, our fleet incorporates real-time geolocation technologies that allow us to:
-
- Optimize routes to reduce unnecessary travel.
- Monitor compliance with collection schedules.
- Respond more quickly and flexibly to service needs.
The use of these solutions ensures a more efficient, sustainable, and transparent service, while reducing emissions associated with transportation.
WASTE RECYCLING AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Selective collection at Parc del Garraf is much more than a simple logistics route.
This approach enables waste recovery, the process by which materials deposited in specific containers (glass, paper, packaging, and organic waste) are converted into new resources.
Thanks to this route, each type of waste is efficiently managed in TMA’s treatment plants.
With Parc del Garraf’s recoverable waste management:
-
- Glass is melted to create new packaging without loss of quality.
- Paper and cardboard are reincorporated into the packaging industry.
- Lightweight packaging is sorted and transformed into recycled plastics.
- Organic matter is used for composting or biogas production.
Thus, with selective collection and waste treatment at TMA plants, we close the materials cycle, reducing pressure on the environment and demonstrating that waste can be converted into resources with environmental and economic value.
Towards Zero Waste
The model promoted by TMA in Parc del Garraf, especially with selective collection, is aligned with the Circular Economy and the Zero Waste philosophy.
This approach understands that waste can be treated and reused to be reincorporated into the production chain, generating a positive impact: less consumption of raw materials, a smaller carbon footprint, and greater efficiency in the use of resources.
With this service, Parc del Garraf is moving towards the goal of Zero Waste:
- Prevent unnecessary waste with planned collection.
- Reuse and recycle materials deposited in the 16 selective collection containers.
- Reducing environmental impact through efficient logistics and low-emission TMA vehicles, suitable for efficient waste transport.
Parc de Garraf’s waste collection is a firm commitment to sustainability, biodiversity, and Zero Waste.
Every bin emptied, every route planned, and every waste recovered protects the health of flora and fauna, maintains a safe and pleasant environment for visitors, and contributes to the Circular Economy.
Service quality and operational control
At TMA, we know that excellence in waste management depends not only on technical resources but also on strict quality control.
Therefore, we have established a continuous monitoring system that ensures that each intervention meets the highest standards.
Some of the measures implemented include:
-
- Precise route planning, with digital tracking and complete traceability.
- Periodic inspection of vehicles and equipment to ensure reliability and minimize the risk of incidents.
- Container cleaning and maintenance protocols are regularly scheduled and documented in execution reports.
- Ongoing training for operators, who receive instruction in safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
Thanks to this comprehensive approach, the service offered at Parc del Garraf not only meets the technical requirements of the tender but also becomes a model of sustainable, innovative management focused on continuous improvement to protect the environment.
The waste management service will respond to potential incidents or unforeseen events because at TMA, we have the capacity to provide immediate responses, ensuring that the park remains clean and safe at all times.
