2 billion tons of waste per year
As every May 17, today we celebrate World Recycling Day, a crucial date to reflect on our impact on the planet and the management of the waste we generate. In a world where around 2 billion tons of solid waste are produced annually, the need to adopt sustainable practices is not only urgent, it is vital. At TMA, we have been committed to the Zero Waste philosophy for more than two decades, under which we direct all our waste management and disposal activities. This approach not only seeks to recover materials and recycle them, but to redesign the life cycles of resources so that every product is reusable, thus aligning with the principles of nature.
THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY, A SUSTAINABLE MODEL
Based on the Circular Economy, we manage waste in a way that maximizes its valorization. From the collection of waste at its source to its transformation into new raw materials, through a meticulous process of selection, classification and treatment, our goal is to close the recycling cycle.
This economy not only focuses on recycling but prioritizes reduction and reuse, reducing the need for new resources and minimizing environmental impact. It is a direct response to the massive generation of waste and its potential to be transformed into new products without having to extract new resources from the planet.
WASTE, MATERIALS AND PROCESSES AT TMA
In our facilities, we handle all types of waste, from non-hazardous and hazardous industrial waste to recoverable, biosanitary and MARPOL (Marine Pollution). We have cutting-edge technology for treatment and recycling, including presses for paper, cardboard, shredding machinery for technical plastics, a water treatment plant and an autoclave that sterilizes biosanitary waste, ensuring that each material is processed in the most efficient and sustainable way possible.
GLOBAL IMPACT AND LOCAL ACTION
The problem of waste management is global, but solutions can and must be implemented at a local level. If not managed properly, accumulated waste could cover the earth’s surface in less than four years, a catastrophic picture that can be avoided with effective management and robust recycling policies.
Our mission at TMA extends beyond waste management; it is a daily fight for a cleaner and more sustainable world. Through our practices, we not only recover materials, but we reintroduce them into the production chain, demonstrating that a continuous and sustainable life cycle is possible for the resources we so often take for granted.
On this World Recycling Day, it is time to reflect on our consumption and waste management habits. Every action counts, and every small step towards recycling contributes to a significant change. We invite you to think about how you can incorporate the 3R practices (Reduce – Reuse – Recycle) into your daily life and join us in our commitment to a cleaner, greener planet.
At TMA, every day is a step forward in our environmental commitment, but today, in particular, we reaffirm our commitment to the planet. Are you ready to be part of the change?
